Tell us your love story…
We met online and chatted for about a month before finally arranging to meet. From that moment we have been pretty much inseparable. We made it official after 3 months of seeing each other and moved into together after 10 months of dating. We got engaged on our two year anniversary and married exactly a year later.
I went to university in Aberystwyth and had always wanted to take Jake. Coming out of lock down we had organised a mini break for our anniversary where we had planned to do all the things that I loved doing when I was at uni (beach, zoo, waterfalls etc). Unfortunately the tier system was introduced and our break was cancelled. Jake then set about finding alternatives for all the thing we were going to do in Aberystwyth near by and within allowance. He found a local waterfall and took me there. I had no idea it was happening and actually joked once we got to the top that the view was so perfect I imagine it would make a great place to purpose and then.. he did!
What was your inspiration for the decor and styling…
Our colour scheme was dusty pink and greens. I love nature and we knew from the start that we wanted greenery to be a main feature.
Jake has a love of cars and motor bikes so we also wanted to include those too. Each table was named after a car or bike he had owned. Our centres were made up Haynes manuals, my favourite books in penguin classic form, a collection of coloured glass candles/ vases and eucalyptus. I am a teacher also, so we also had one of my students do water colour paintings of the cars to have on each table.
We made everything. Large flags, table numbers, resin name tags, copper hoops and photo booth etc.
Wedding favours were loose tea and coffee beans. Kids had jelly beans.
Note from the team – Abbie & Jake’s decor was honestly one of the most incredible set ups we have ever seen a couple do themselves! They thought of absolutely everything and even had dog treats from their dog. It was amazing!!! 🙂
What were your favourite moments of the day…
The first look with my dad and brothers.
My man of honour entrance into the wedding as our flower boy.
Our promises- we wrote our own.
My family dance.
Just being with all our favourite people and marrying my best friend.
What was on the menu…
We had a three tier cake – victoria sponge, white chocolate and raspberry and carrot cake.
We also had a cheese cake with 8 different types of cheese.
We did our own sweet table.
We had a two course sit down and street food carts. All outstanding!!
What made you choose Wootton Park…
The barn feel. The fact that you can have everything in one place and still achieve very separate locations and feels.
What was the best piece of advise you were given in the run up to your big day…
Take a moment and step back. Also accept help, you can’t do it all by yourself!
