Meet the Team at Wootton Park Weddings, introducing Luke.
When the sun dips and the evening celebrations begin, our evening supervisors step in and keep the magic flowing. Luke is part of this team, working behind the scenes to make sure every couple’s big day ends just as beautifully as it began. We sat down with him to talk about his role, his favourite moments and his advice for couples.
How would you describe the role of an evening supervisor at Wootton Park?
Our main role begins after the wedding coordinators finish for the day. They usually cover the morning and afternoon through to food service and speeches. After that, I take over, making sure the evening runs smoothly – from the first dance to the cake cutting and beyond! I look after everything else the couple might need until the end of the night.
What’s the best part of your job?
Seeing how happy and excited everyone is. Weddings here are always uplifting, so it’s a great place to be.
How do you work, either behind the scenes or front of house, to keep everything running smoothly?
Once I take over from the coordinator, it’s down to me to manage the timings the couple have decided on for the evening, such as when food is served or the DJ starts. At the same time, it’s not a strict schedule. If the couple want to make changes – say they need an extra 15 minutes to themselves – I’ll move things around. Of course, I also have to make sure things don’t drift too far. If it gets to an hour after the first dance was supposed to happen, the photographers might need to leave. So it’s a balance between flexibility and keeping things on track. I also manage the team, including their roles for the evening.
What’s your top piece of advice for couples on their wedding day?
Just relax! People often worry about timings – thinking ‘we should’ve done this by now’ – but we’re really flexible. If you want to add something in or you’re running late, it’s no problem. The day is about you, so enjoy it.
What’s been your favourite wedding moment so far?
We had a festival-style wedding recently that was amazing. They had banners, flags, teepees and, instead of a sit-down meal, they went with street food vendors. It was really unique, so different from the usual format. The weather was fantastic, too. That stands out as one of the most fun experiences I’ve had here.
Any tips for couples when it comes to evening food and drinks?
We’ve got loads of great suppliers with lots of different options: hog roast, pizza, Indian, Caribbean, pasta, fish and chips – so it really depends on what you want. My advice would be: if you’ve had a traditional sit-down meal earlier, have some fun with the evening food. Try something a bit less traditional, something you might not normally go for.
What’s your secret superpower on a wedding day?
Adaptability! Steph, one of my colleagues, always says I’ll literally turn my hand to anything. Whatever’s needed, I’ll get it done.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given since coming to Wootton Park?
To be flexible and relaxed. Everything doesn’t have to run to the exact minute. It should be about the couple. If they’re busy doing something, make sure they take the time they need before moving on to the next thing.
And finally, here’s your quick-fire round – tell us your favourites!
