Real Weddings – Emily & Katie

Tell us your love story:

We originally met at university in 2012 so we knew of each other but as Katie is older she left uni and we did our own thing for a while and then during Covid we got back in touch via the group quizzes everyone was doing on Zoom to pass the time, we realised we lived super close to each other so we met up and it went from there. We got engaged on a little bridge in Venice in April 2024, Katie proposed to me.

What was your inspiration for the decor & styling:

We always knew we would have green as that’s our favourite colour and the colour of the majority of our house decor lol and we also chose the Daisy flower as Katie’s daughter is called Daisy, so we wanted a little nod to her during the day.
We created the centre pieces ourselves but for everything else we used Sparkle Event Styling, who were amazing and really helped us decide on the best items plus they know the venue well. The venue itself also helped as its so beautiful anyway, you don’t actually have to do much to it
For favours we did a little tea bag idea as we love tea! (Yorkshire of course!) and we also did some little chocolates too as who doesn’t love chocolate?

What were your favourite moments of the day:

We loved the whole day of course; it was truly amazing. I loved how chilled the venue was, it was so calm all morning and all throughout the day which helped with the nerves. We loved getting married outside, so lucky the weather held up so we could do that and also the sparklers on the evening had such a cute vibe. We also had the estate tour which was so nice and lovely to have that time together after we got married before the crazy party began!

What was on the menu:

All of our guests commented on how amazing the food was – which was great! We chose the 3-course wedding breakfast and we had the Lamb Koftas, Persian Spiced Chicken and White Chocolate Creme Brule and it really was so tasty. We also had canapés which were a lovely treat whilst everyone was having their reception drink, we chose the duck, halloumi fries and salmon for those. There was a sweet table too, we did that ourselves and that went down amazingly well, plus the cake which we had made by our amazing Blondies Cake House, who I highly recommend ! In the evening we had 2 street food vans, pizza and fish and chips, which were perfect to finish off the day and soak up some of the alcohol and again the guest commented on how amazing this was!

What was the biggest challenge you face in the run up to the wedding:

We didn’t actually have anything major that I can remember! Other than checking the weather app 24/7!

What made you choose Wootton Park:

Wootton park was the first and only venue we looked at, as soon as we arrived, we loved it and we didn’t want to look elsewhere. It had everything we wanted.. The option to get married indoor or outdoor, the space for guests and for children to run around, option for fireworks (although we didn’t have them), street food vans, beautiful room for the wedding breakfast and we loved that we could stay the night before at the venue and set up things such as the centre pieces too. The staff were so friendly, we had a lovely guy who showed us around, although he left before our wedding. We then had Natalie take over as our wedding coordinator and she was amazing. So chill, so informative and super friendly. She put us at ease on the day too and everything ran so smoothly. Thank you, Natalie!

What was the best piece of advice you were given in the run up to your big day:

One thing lots of people said to us was to make sure we take ourselves off for a small part of the day, to celebrate us together which is where the estate tour came in really handy as we were whisked off for about half an hour for some lovely photos and it was a chance to breathe and speak to each other away from everyone else. We also had a sweetheart table at the wedding breakfast, which again was a great way for us to spend some time together.
Another thing was to just not stress, just take the day as it comes and remember the reason you are getting married.. To celebrate your love and not to please your guests. Choose the food you like, choose the music you like, choose the wedding you want.
